DERMAL FILLER INJECTION FOR WRINKLES
GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS
Commonly used facial fillers include hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance already present in your skin (brands include Restylane , Restylane Fine Lines , Perlane , Juvederm , Hylaform ), synthetic microspheres ( Radiesse ), and collagen . Hyaluronic acid fillers typically last six to twelve months and can be used by Dr. Kohn to improve frown lines between the eyebrows, creases at the corner of the mouth (marionette lines), lip shape and/or size, dark circles below the eyes, and depressed facial scars. Dr. Kohn will review your specific concerns and medical history and advise you about the best uses of various facial fillers for your specific situation.
ADMINISTRATION
Fillers are injected with a tiny needle (30 gauge) directly into the area of concern, sometimes in conjunction with ice, topical anesthetic cream, or anesthetic block injection to minimize discomfort.
RESULTS
Effects are visible immediately, but mild local swelling occurs rapidly and lasts for approximately 24 hours. Improvement in facial appearance lasts six to twelve months with hyaluronic acid, shorter with collagen, and longer with synthetic microspheres.
COMPLICATIONS
Bruising can occur with any injection, although it is quite uncommon. Infection is extremely rare. Facial fillers can result in underfilling, overfilling, or asymmetry. These can be managed by manual manipulation of the injected filler or by the injection of additional filler. Collagen can rarely cause a local hypersensitivity reaction. |
